MAX
Academy 10th Anniversary
Celebration
THE HINDU dated 8th
September 2003
How
many minutes or hours does
it take to memorise about 30
telephone numbers along with
names and phone codes and
recall them in the same
order and in the reverse
order? 10 minutes for the
memory champions of Madras
Academy for Excellence (MAX
)
On Friday, the audience got
a glimpse of what memory can
mean, at the tenth
anniversary memory
celebration of
MAX,
when the
memory champions performed
their tricks in recalling
binary digit numbers in
random and a combination of
words and numbers.
Initially the going was
tough for the Maxonians (as
they are known among the
members) when the spectators
gave them long medical terms
to memorise and recollect in
a span of about 10 minutes.
However the memory wizards
including housewives,
professionals and students
managed to have the audience
enthralled throughout the
show.
A student of
MAX
and an
expert in speed memory and
random number games, S.Raghunathan recalled
about 30 pairs of two digit
numbers. The game did not
end just with that.
Mr.Raghunathan won a round
of applause by recollecting
the numbers in reverse order
of the digits and the
numbers.
M.Lalitha, a housewife
memorised about 20 pairs of
binary numbers in about 10
minutes and recalled them in
a few seconds. The show
turned interactive when the
audience started testing the
skills of the Maxonians. At
the show, Mrs.Lalitha
recalled the numbers as per
the choice of the
spectators, random or the
reverse order, and she was
greeted with another round
of applause.
It also turned out to be an
occasion to the award the
students who had mastered
the skills and honour the
couple, A.F.Pinto and Grace
Pinto for their contribution
to education. Giving away
the Inspiring Achiever
award, the Director of MAX,
Dr.J.N.Reddy, said the
recipients who had
established 75 schools
namely St.Xavier's Group of
schools and Ryan
International schools in 14
states in the country were a
source of inspiration for
the aspiring young
generation.
A Student study planner that
has a Perpetual calendar,
which would help the
students to plan their exam
schedule, was also released
on the occasion. By K.
